These readings were recorded at Kathy’s request during the Re-Doing Childhood sessions in August, 1993. I had a DAT copy of Medea with a rough mix sitting on a shelf for 6 or 7 years before I revisited it. I was stunned by its beauty, and felt that it had an intimate quality and strong message that should be heard. However, the mix had some level problems and was also rather short by today’s standards. So, I let it sit. Then, in the fall of 06, I received some encouragement about the Paris catalog and began to produce some of the “vault” recordings. I started by remixing Medea with baked masters and during that process found that there was an additional vocal track on the tapes. This turned out to be the amazing Lament for Patriarchy! I had completely forgotten about recording it. Using Joe Gore’s bass track and Ralph Carney’s overdubs from the Medea mix we re-mixed the track. Jeff Mount at Goodnight Audio in dallas did a terrific job, and the results are what are presented here. Hal Willner produced the original sessions in 93.
